Our Vision
The Imagine Learning Center aims to improve education and community connection on West Rote, a small, remote Indonesian island. Our goal is to create a space where local and expat children can learn, play and grow together while preserving local culture and language.
We have been providing free, high-quality education and enrichment to children on Rote Island since 2018. With demand now far exceeding capacity, and land generously donated for expansion, the ILC is seeking $145,985 USD in funding to build a permanent, purpose-designed facility. Supported by a sustainable financial model and rooted in community need, the project will create lasting educational and cultural impact for generations.
What We’re Building
The ILC will include:
Main Building with four classrooms (144sqm)
Digital Learning Center (40sqm)
Arts and Crafts Building (28sqm)
Open-Air Classroom (50sqm)
Music Studio (20sqm)
Administration and Staff Housing (32sqm)
Playground (28sqm)
Total: 350sqm
Estimated cost: $110,000 USD
Why it Matters
West Rote’s public schools lack resources beyond basic curriculum. No computer labs, science facilities, or extracurriculars are available. The ILC fills this gap with modern learning opportunities, creative outlets, and cultural exchange.
Sustainability Plan
Unlike many short-lived projects, the ILC has a self-sustaining model. Mornings serve fee-paying expat students, generating $40,000+ USD annually to cover operations, payroll, and maintenance. Afternoons provide free access to local children and the wider community.
The Need for Expansion
Demand has grown beyond capacity. Current rented classrooms are too small, resources are stretched thin, and many students wait for space to join. A generous local landowner has donated land for a permanent campus — a rare opportunity to build a center designed to meet the community’s needs.
Why Your Support Matters
Your contribution will:
Provide free, high-quality education to underserved children
Build a safe, inspiring space where young leaders can grow
Empower teachers with resources to expand beyond the standard curriculum
Leave a lasting legacy on Rote Island’s next generation
